Just Diagnosed with Fibro
1 Replies

Hi all,
After years and years of pain all over my body, and doctors (ortho, chiro, PCP) telling me it was tendonitis/arthritis/trigger points/impingement/blah blah blah, I finally found a doctor who seemed actually concerned and referred me to a rheumatologist. I had blood tests, which came out normal, and x-rays that showed minor osteoarthritis but which wasn't severe enough that it should be causing me so much pain. So he said it was most likely probably fibromyalgia.

I always thought fibromyalgia was one of those trashcan disorders that doctors diagnose you with when they can't figure out what's wrong, or that it's a disorder that only affect malingerers and hypochondriacs. Therefore, I have always downplayed my pain and wrote it off that I walked too much or lifted something too heavy - because, as I'm sure you all know - the pain comes and goes. Yet, in the back of my mind I had a sneaking suspicion that fibro was at the root of this. I'm now 40, but this has been going on for at least 7yrs... and regardless of my age, I'm too young to have this much pain and all of these problems happening concurrently (the aforementioned tendonitis/arthritis/impingement, etc).

So I've been doing research and trying to learn more and more. It's still hard for me to communicate to my loved ones why I get overwhelmed and tired from doing small things. I've always been so GO GO GO and now things just keep getting more and more difficult.

Then I stumbled across this forum, and reading your posts have really helped me.

So thank you!
