Fibro/Sexual Abuse connection.

I am a 64 year old male Armed Forces Veteran. I was sexually abused for 2+ years as a 16-18 yr old Air Force Trainee...this is now a matter of record and large police investigation. I have, this morning been given a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia (after 18 years of misdiagnosed 'arthritis')...I also have Service related PTSD for 30+ years and a year ago IBS.....I want to find people who are researching the Fibro/sexual abuse link. I am a Forum Member with the IICSA (Historic Child Abuse Inquiry) and there are many in my position.

It's funny you bring up two main traumas, because I myself was sexually abused as a child, then suffered a physically and emotionally traumatizing birth of my son. My chronic pain doctor told me new studies are showing that fibromyalgia sufferers show a very high percentage of sexual abuse, followed by another highly traumatizing event later in life. Our fibro has something to do with our brains being on constant alert for danger, and the human body was never meant to sustain that level of constant survival mode. It's quite fascinating. Lupus, cancer, RA, and other auto-immune syndromes are also thought have a high percentage of sufferers having a history of trauma. I thought it was very interesting to learn that more often than not, fibro sufferers went through two or more life altering traumatic events.
