Alternative Fibromyalgia Therapies

Complementary medicine, or alternative medicine, uses techniques different from traditional medicine to treat illnesses. The benefit of complementary medicine is that it does not include pharmaceutical drugs or surgery and thus has significantly fewer side effects. It is for this reason that complementary medicine has become so popular and is many people’s first choice when dealing with chronic illnesses, such as fibromyalgia.

Herbal medications are often preferred over prescription drugs and may be helpful for some fibromylagia sufferers. There are also some supplements fibromyalgia patients can take, such as glucosamine and chondroitin. Other popular alternative treatments include massage therapy, aromatherapy, biofeedback, neurofeedback, cupping, reflexology, chelation therapy, acupuncture and acupressure.

People who are looking for a more complex form of complimentary medicine may want to make an appointment with an osteopathy. This type of medicine incorporates physical, medicinal and surgical forms of diagnosis and therapy to naturally treat the body. Those who want to take a pro-active approach to their condition may be interested in the Rehab Approach, which requires a patient to self-manage their treatment.

Some other lesser known types of therapy include trigger point therapy, which is similar to acupressure, hypnosis, light therapy, low frequency sound therapy, and craniosacral therapy and environmental therapy. Reiki therapy is another alternate form of therapy that can be helpful in alleviating fibromyalgia symptoms, as is Watsu therapy and magnet therapy. A digestive system cleanse can bring fibromyalgia relief by eliminating toxins in your body which can causing and aggravating your fibromyalgia symptoms.

Many fibromyalgia patients feel over stressed due to their debilitating symptoms and the regular demands of daily life. To help combat this stress, it is

important to pick up some useful relaxation techniques.

In addition, flower essences is another alternative fibromyalgia treatment that is becoming increasingly popular and which can help to improve fibromyalgia symptoms such as chronic pain and fatigue, as well as to improve your overall physical and mental health. Hyrdotherapy, which is based on the therapeutic use of hot and cold water, can also bring you the relief you need from your fibromyalgia symptoms while dance therapy uses therapeutic movements in order to relieve widespread pain, anxiety and fibrofog.

Humor therapy uses the power of laughter to alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia. If you're an animal lover, pet therapy is a good option for easing fibromyalgia pain. Emu oil is another alnternative threatment for fibromyalgia that can help to bring fibromyalgia relief and can supplement medicinal therapy.

I want to know how many of you have tried CBD? As a nurse I am continually researching and love the prospect of something that isn't harmful to the body, doesn't altar mental state and actually works. I have encountered several cancer patients who have used this instead of the medications offered by the oncologist to relieve pain and nausea. They would take one little CBD gummy and instantly have no nausea or pain and able to sleep. This is promising.
Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy should be added here. It is a medical device health Canada and Italy approved. Dr. Oz talked about it in his program. Join my group at meet up ; drug-free solution for chronic pain, in Toronto.
Ayurvedic medicine should be added to the list of "alternative" therapies. Sidetone: funny to call many of the things on that list alternative therapies when come of the "traditional" therapies are known to not work, have a gazillion side effects, and only help symptoms for the duration a patient is taking them. When the patient stops taking them, the symptoms immediately return. Ayurveda is a complete health system that is older than almost any other form of medicine and has recognized fibromyalgia as a disease for many millennia. It gets to the root cause of it and treats the actual person, not the "disease". According to Ayurveda, the "disease" is not the actual problem. The disease only occurs once your body becomes out of balance. The disease is only symptoms. I got pretty sick of being treated as a "disease." Plus pain pills can only go so far...

I have had Fibro for a few years now and not many problems until recently. It hit me full force and as far as taking medications most of them I am allergic to. So where do I go from here? I did find that when I take Calcium and Magnesium on a regular basis I feel better, which is good; however, when I buy my vitamins and herbs I always look at "other ingredients" because if it has listed a whole bunch of "other ingredients" I stay away from it because they are fillers and do nothing for you. Getting back to the pain. I started Aqua Therapy and it was helping but I also have Vocal Cord Dysfunction and the chlorine in the water was attacking that and I couldn't breath right so I had to stop that therapy. I am going to try a full body cleanse and follow the suggestions about watching what I eat and see if that will help me. I will let you know what my findings are. Yes my life has not been the same since this started but I believe there is a reason for me to be exactly where I am so you will hear from me during my process. By the way my age is 71. I do not consider myself old but sometimes I feel about 150. I will not stop moving and stretching and walking till they strap me down. So God Bless all of you my prayers will be to lift you up and strengthen you.
It's been 7 years since my diagnosis. My life has not been the same since. I have tried many medications with limited success. Most recently I have had significant relief from a hormone supplement called Pregnenolone. I only have taken it for 4 days but I noticed positive results almost immediately. My mind is clearer and my stiffness and muscle spasms are less severe. I usually have a "honeymoon" effect with medications. They work at the beginning and then not at all later on. I have my fingers crossed and I am recommending this supplement to all who suffer. The research makes some fantastic claims so do take the time to research. Good luck to all.
